Photography is about light, and in fact, it can be defined as the recording of light. Lighting is also one of the hardest things to get right in a photograph. To shoot images that stand out from the crowd, understanding the light source is critical. Being able to understand and manipulate light is crucial to creating a variety of moods and atmospheres for your images. There are many forms of light and to begin with we will be examining; 1) Ambient Light 2) Soft Light and 3) Hard Light |
Ambient
Ambient light (also called available light or natural light) refers to any source of light that is not supplied by the photographer.

Soft
Soft light is light that creates shadows with a gradual transition from light to dark. There are no hard shadow lines. It is created from a scattered or diffused light source.
|
HardHard light creates shadows with a sharp edge. Hard light is created by strongly focussed light travelling from a small single-point light source like the Sun or a focussed beam of light.
